Modern Thobs?!



I was driving in prince abdullah's road yesterday when I saw one of the most famous thoub shops in Jeddah, lomar. I usually deal with another shop in Sari street but I thought I should try lomar this time.

It was my first visit to the place and to be honest, i was amazed. The ambience was nice, creative decoration and the shop was busy!! I selected two designs although i liked more..I thought I should try these two first..they told me your thoubs will be ready by the 25th of ramadan!! lol you can imagine how busy are these guys :P

  • The best thing about lomar is the fashion sense and real effort they have put on their designs .. i remember many tailor companies in jeddah and riyadh trying to break the mold with new designs only to fail with the same mistake of making thobes look extra elaborate/ridiculous .. from the looks of it i guess lomar will be quite succesful with their modern presentation of their products plus the really attractive designs .. and their website looks great :P

    My two brothers wear these fashionable styles 3la 6ool.. yesterday they went together to the store in order to get their thobes ready b4 the 25th of Ramadan :P, & I was all like "I wish I could join you :( 7ata law bs to watch! :( :S".. mn jed sometimes I wish I was born a boy to enjoy the whole haste & exhilaration of designing your own unique thobes you guys!... :S
    wallah 7amas gabl al3eed a7la men al banat!!! we do nothing fresh at all!.. it's the same every year!.. shopping from the usual stores O KAMAN GETTING ANGERY & DISAPPOINTED WHEN DISCOVERING THAT MY COUSIN JUST HAPPENED TO BUY THE SAME PIECE OF CLOTHING THAT I BOUGHT!!!!! :s

    This year I'm trying to push daddy to go for the vogue, & he was like "inty atjannanty tb'3eeny albs almlawwan wal m6arraz zay dol alshabab!!!!!" LOL ya naath 3ala baba bs :x all old-fashioned & loving it! :P

    hey u should go to lomar WITH ur father! many girls go there with their husbands, fathers and maybe bfs :P my point is, am sure he will like some of the designs..yes there are concepts which were made for teenagers. on the other hand there are others which will suit your father's taste..

  • I just got back from outside & I know the owner of Lomar :P.... It's Marwan Qutb :P.. & yes the guy is a partner in an ads. agency called "3 points", the 3 points symbolizes him & two more of his friends who are in the field of the advertisement... & I also know one guy of the other two's... lol... isn't Jeddah a great city?? :P everybody knows everybody & everybody is related to everybody! :P

  • I'm against Lomar! Not cuz of the basic thobes, but cuz of the more eccentric styles they have! Some of them, actually most of their styles are just too much! I mean, don't forget, our thobe is the traditional outfit of our country... Regular zipper is fine, but when it comes to the more 'fashionable' styles such as the 'Arms' and 'Shirt' designs as an example, they are too off the hook for me!! blekh, too Westernized!

  • im not into fashion alot, but i think some designs such as the thoub shud be left alone as it creates more problem. for example what happens when u need to goto the toilet and u zip up forgetting something? it brings alot of pain and hassle.

    and how the hell do u wear it? is it like a huge rain coat u stick each arm in and then zip it up?

    also what happens if u zip it up and ur some body hair gets stuck in the zipper? it will hurt!!

    but yes the pic looks nice the thobe looks modern, etc etc

  • Hey I have a question- my family is half Khaleeji wa half Jeddawi. For a school project I need to dress in "Traditional" attire. I was just going to wear standard Saudi dress but my teacher (who has lived and work in Saudi) said that is "Modern."
